Business School Sports League - It's not a game, It's a war !
After looking at all our players in the class, most of them performed exceeding well in EPL, So this time we all were in a group to play the inaugural tournament namely BSSL. We showed the best possible play to step ahead to reach the finals. We defeated almost all the cricket players in whole MBA. Difficult times for players to come up early in the morning at 8 and play games without having break fast. It was really hard work and enjoyable play from us.
We reached finals by almost destroying every team ( I was captaining the side, For my luck about 4 matches I won the toss and put opponent bat first, so it's easy for us to restrict them and chase down the target as we had very deep batting line up).
Final- It's not the way we can dream of, I lost the toss and we were batting first for the first time in the tournament.
Anirudh and Karthik and played well and kept the score board ticking well within 6 runs per over. We were wicket less for about 7 overs then suddenly a wicket and it's time for the Arun pandy's quick fire again, he smashed the bowlers for all parts and perished quickly. I was next to go and I was out for a duck for the first time ( in finals). Next Ram went and he played some rough shots and got out then we asked the beast Deepak (new comer into our team) had smashed the bowlers, he made the difference in the score card from moving 6 to 8 runs per over. Opponent team was our seniors - the regular MBA's. They were shocked to see the batting style of Deepak and we ended up getting 80 runs in 10 overs.
Opponent tried every possible way to cheat in the umpiring but we stick to the basics and played a good game all around. We had some quick wickets at the top and middle but one the seniors named Sandeep played some good shots and that made us get to winning mode difficult but we never gave up, finally he perished in last over. It was Mohandoss (we call him- B) who bowled a fantastic last over giving away 3-4 runs and taking a couple of handy wickets. We won the match by 3 runs. Last over we gave 3-4 runs out of 8 runs and finally ended up winning one the close games of all time. Emotions filled with players as everyone jumped in joy and shouting. Oh !! IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY OF CRICKET.
SECOND AND MY LAST BSSL IN VIT:
2014, after entering into trimester in MBA, it's difficult to get time for playing all cricket tournaments. But one last time we had a chance to play BSSL, we had some new players into the side for this last time. A Couple of players had some rough moments and we went to playing normal cricket by settling down all the issues.
We are the senior most experienced team in VIT as far the number of games and tournaments are concerned. I captained the team this time also. We played every game in our trademark way to defeat teams from BBA's and a couple of MBA teams. Getting ahead of final is our first goal and we are very sure once we reach final nobody can stop us from winning.
We reached the finals by defeating 3 teams in a single day. Next day is our final and unfortunately, I have been stuck with one company as I register for placements but nevertheless I escaped from there ( people who are not interested in the profile can leave is the statement used by the HR who came on that day, I have escaped ) and came. Though I went to ground to play the finals I was not feeling well, sense of extremely high-level fever and cough made my day even more difficult.
Final- MBA(integrated) vs MBA(regular). Regular MBA guys won the toss and asked us to bat, as I mentioned earlier, our old strategy was to quickly bowl 8 overs and restrict them to a decent score but final is a final and luck is not with us in the toss. We started the game in a decent way and Karthik- our all time opener quickly got out, Myself and Arun Pandy gathered some runs as we reached 30+ runs in 4 overs and next 4 overs came as miserable for us as I was out bowled and Arun was still there till 2 overs to go but he was got out at the bad time. Runs had stopped coming. Deepak who was a beast in the previous BSSL final had made a over maiden and then he came. Mohandoss went and scored some quick runs in final overs. Finally, we ended up scoring 55 runs in 8 overs.
After the batting collapse, we were still confident as we need some quick wickets at the top and make them feel the pressure. This could be our last tournament, let's win to add this our memories in college is the word keep flowing in mind. I gave some tips and words as usual and my boys delivered. Ram Prashanth gave away 11 runs in an over but eventually picking up an important wicket, then the collapse happened as we expected, run out in pandy over, 2 wickets in my over. And finally 26 runs needed from 6 balls, I bowled that over and given 2 runs and the wait is over. Everybody went into the joy as usual. I couldn't even celebrate much ( fever steals the party).
At the same day, we all gathered to receive the medals and certificates from the executive director of MBA.
ONE OF THE EMOTIONAL VICTORIES OF ALL TIME FOR SOME PLAYERS. I WAS HAPPY TO BE A PART OF IT.
